The cleaner changes surface features, not ideas. It does not summarize, fact-check or invent text.

1. Add the original transcript

Paste transcript text or open a supported local file. The source remains editable and is not uploaded.

Review before quoting. Standard and Publishable cleaning can change emphasis. Each version starts independently from the original so edits do not compound.

Direct answer

What does a transcript cleaner do?

A transcript cleaner turns raw or verbatim text into a cleaner reading copy by removing transcription artifacts—caption overlap, broken spacing, filler words, stutters and repeated phrases—while keeping the speaker’s underlying meaning. This tool produces three alternatives because the safest amount of editing depends on whether you need a source record, clean-verbatim notes or publication-ready prose.

Use the lightest level that solves the problem

Light Clean is the best default for research evidence and quotations. Standard Clean improves readability. Publishable Clean is smoother but requires line-by-line comparison with the original.

Questions and safeguards

Transcript cleaner FAQ

Does the transcript cleaner upload my text?

No. The transcript is processed in the browser. The tool does not upload the text, require an account or call an external AI API.

What is the difference between Light, Standard and Publishable cleaning?

Light fixes formatting, overlap and conservative punctuation. Standard also removes high-confidence fillers, stutters and adjacent repetition. Publishable adds limited grammar and transition cleanup for smoother prose, so it requires the most careful review.

Which transcript formats are supported?

The tool accepts pasted text and TXT, MD, SRT and VTT files up to 10 MB. It removes caption timing lines and basic subtitle markup before cleaning.

Can it clean a copied YouTube transcript?

Yes. Paste the copied YouTube transcript into the original-text field. The cleaner can remove repeated caption overlap, repair spacing and create readable paragraphs, but it does not retrieve or transcribe the video itself.

Does it preserve SRT or VTT timestamps?

No. This tool extracts and cleans the spoken text, then exports a plain TXT transcript. Use a subtitle editor instead when you need to preserve or change cue timing.

Can I use the cleaned transcript as a quotation?

Review it against the original first. Automated cleanup can alter emphasis or meaning, especially at the Standard and Publishable levels. Preserve the original transcript as the source of record.

Does this tool summarize or fact-check a transcript?

No. It cleans surface features such as spacing, repetition, fillers and punctuation. It does not summarize, verify claims or add information.
