Video Overview transforms your source materials into a narrated slide-style video with AI-generated visuals powered by Google's Nano Banana Pro image generation model. Unlike Audio Overview, which is audio-only, Video Overview gives you synchronized visuals — diagrams, charts, highlighted text, illustrative images — that reinforce the narration. The result looks like a professionally produced explainer video, generated in minutes from your documents.
Launched in mid-2025, the feature initially offered basic visual styles. By late 2025, Google expanded it to include six visual styles: classic (clean, professional), whiteboard (hand-drawn sketch feel), watercolor (artistic, soft), kawaii (cute, colorful), and more. The cinematic mode, rolled out in July 2025, creates more immersive visual outputs for eligible users. Two format options — Explainer (longer, more detailed) and Brief (shorter, executive summary style) — let you control depth.
The educational impact is significant. A teacher can upload a chapter from a biology textbook and generate a 5-minute video with diagrams of cell structures, labeled processes, and clear narration — the kind of supplemental content that would cost thousands to produce professionally. A consultant can turn a 30-page strategy document into a 3-minute Brief video for a client who won't read the report.
Flipped classrooms are the standout use case. Upload lecture materials and generate a video for students to watch before class, freeing class time for discussion and application. Videos cannot be edited after generation — you regenerate with an adjusted prompt if the output isn't right. The visual style is AI-generated, so it won't match your brand guidelines precisely. Generation times are the longest of any Studio feature, sometimes taking 5–15 minutes. The cinematic mode is only available to premium subscribers.
Add documents to your notebook. For video generation, concise and well-structured sources produce better results. If your sources are very long, consider selecting specific sections rather than full documents.
Navigate to the Studio panel on the right side. Find the Video Overview tile.
Select between Explainer (detailed, longer) and Brief (concise, executive summary). Then choose your visual style: whiteboard for educational content, classic for professional, watercolor for creative topics, kawaii for engaging younger audiences.
Specify what the AI should focus on, the target audience, and any structural preferences. For example: 'Focus on the three main findings and their practical implications. Target audience: marketing managers with no technical background.'
Click Generate. Video Overviews take 5–15 minutes — the longest of any Studio feature. The AI generates narration, selects and creates visuals, and synchronizes everything.
Watch the generated video. If the focus is wrong or the style doesn't match, adjust your prompt and regenerate. Download or share the video with your team or audience.
